Midwest Warehouse ‘Shines’ as Logistics Provider for Lighting Company

The Client
This highly efficient lighting company provides thousands of household and commercial customers with energy-saving products. Its focus on producing eco-friendly products has earned the company numerous accolades and helped to make it a leading nationwide supplier of lighting fixtures.

The Challenge
This lighting company has a strong commitment to providing the best service and accurate, on-time delivery to its customers. As demand for its products significantly increased, the company needed to identify a logistics provider that could provide superior service, electronic data interchange and timely, accurate data to ensure inventory and orders were expertly handled.

The Solution
After meeting with a number of potential vendors, Midwest Warehouse and Distribution System, Inc. (Midwest) was the top contender to be the client’s new warehousing provider. “Right from the start, Midwest was willing to work with us and do things the way we wanted them done,” said the client’s vice president of finance. “For example, instead of being charged the traditional storage and handling rate per carton, we wanted the pricing on a percentage of sales basis and they were perfectly willing to do that.”

Midwest was given the opportunity to prove itself by providing warehousing and delivery services for a new product line rolling out for one of the client’s largest customers. “This was a very important customer of ours with immediate and high-volume product needs,” said the vice president. “We threw a lot of complex and last-minute requirements at Midwest, and they met them all.” By demonstrating its ability to adhere to the lighting company’s precise regulations, including stringent bar code labeling and specific transportation and consolidation documentation, Midwest was awarded the balance of the company’s business.

Midwest provides the client with a full range of logistics services, including:

  • Floor unloading
  • Complete Electronic Data Interface (EDI)
  • Pick pack
  • VICS bill formatting
  • UCC 128 labeling
  • Advanced Ship Notice (ASN)
  • Adherence to special retail store shipping instructions
  • Cycle counting
  • Small parcel shipping
  • Dedicated warehouse labor
  • Dedicated office labor
  • Repair, testing, conditioning and relabeling of fixtures

The Results
Three years later, Midwest remains the client’s sole warehousing partner. “We are a small company, yet they make us feel like we are their most important customer. We are never put on the back burner, and get really good service,” said the vice president. “Midwest is professional and very friendly, and treats you like part of the family. What I really like is that they have one person dedicated to our account who serves as our ‘go to’ person and handles everything for us. I’m also impressed by the fact that I have open access to the president of the company; I can call him anytime and he responds. I’ve never experienced that before.”

The company also appreciates Midwest’s customer-focused philosophy. “Midwest is willing to do whatever it takes to make a customer happy,” concluded the vice president. “Anytime you call them with a request or need information, they stay right on top of it. We really don’t need to go to others; Midwest is able to meet all our needs. For example, we go to them with special projects such as repackaging products before they are shipped, and Midwest handles it. I am so happy with their service that I would refer them to anyone.”
